Songwriters that Rock

Hi there! My name is Jess Bowman, and I am a 28-year-old singer, songwriter, and musician.

Growing up, listening to artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton have played a massive part in who I am as a musician today. I love to have variety in my setlist that makes sure there is something for everyone to enjoy!  My biggest musical inspiration is Ed Sheeran. I discovered the loop pedal when I was around 14 and started incorporating it into my gigs when I was 19. The loop pedal gives me the opportunity to widen my performance making myself into a "one-woman band" on the stage.

I started piano lessons at five years old and self-taught guitar at age eleven. I wrote my first song back when I was sixteen and have been singing for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I have learned to play a multitude of instruments that include; piano, guitar, drums & ukulele!  I started playing gigs at small events and farmers' markets when I was seventeen, and since then have had the honour of getting to professionally play music at many pubs, restaurants, festivals, and weddings around Clearview, Collingwood, Barrie, Orillia and surrounding areas for over 10 years.

In March of 2025, I released my debut album “Journey” featuring 10 songs. I am so proud of this album and to get to share my story with you all. Stream “Journey” now wherever you listen to your music!

Romney Getty sings with a purpose. To witness her perform is to attest to a world-class artist with a rare presence; she will diffuse your soul with a voice that was seemingly born from the cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta, that resonates from a deep, forlorn place- from the core of her spirit.

“Wherever this girl rambles next, success is sure to follow…(Getty) has the voice, the attitude and the poise to be in the big time” Chart Attack Magazine
Romney’s two albums “Fill in Your Gray” and Ramblin Girl have garnered her favourable reviews and international attention in publications from Uncut Magazine, Mojo, The Times, Blues Matters, Americana UK, and many more.

Her second album Ramblin Girl, was recorded at a converted church in Hamilton by the late producer Dan Achen. Romney enlisted the help of friends Bob Egan (Pedal Steel) Blue Rodeo, Colin Cripps, Mike Churchill, and Russ Boswell and continued touring and performing alongside older brother Jeff Getty, an accomplished guitarist and vocalist. The album has been compared to the likes of swampy Fleetwood Mac, and Lucinda Williams meets the Band.

“Wow can this girl deliver a song of what! Romney Getty is a singer-songwriter from Canada, and her very personal and soulful delivery of country-blues is totally spellbinding.” Guitar Techniques Magazine.

Getty is a bona fide artist-an accomplished guitarist who possesses a distinctive gift for songwriting and performances that can seemingly channel ghosts of Roots, Blues, and Country music’s past in her and the band’s delivery.

Romney has toured Canada, the U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand, and the UK and has shared the stage with a world-class roster of artists: Joe Cocker, Amy Whinehouse, Jim Cuddy, KT Tunstall, Billy Bragg, Greg Keelor, Travis Good, Toby Keith, Michael Franti’s Spearhead, Shannon Lyon, The Drive by Truckers and Kevin Breit to name a few.

Romney currently resides in Collingwood, Ontario, and performs solo or with members of her longtime band, Tim Irvine, Kevin Knox, Skip Wamsteeker, and Aisha Chiandet, as well as guest appearances from older brother, Jeff Getty, at selected local venues and festivals.
