Queen Milli of Galt: A Staged Reading

October 17, 2026 | 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm

Bursting with heart and a generous dose of humour, Queen Milli of Galt is a witty and touching exploration of unexpected love based on a true story. In 1972, the Duke of Windsor (formerly King Edward VIII) dies in exile at the age of 78. Two weeks later, in the small town of Galt, an 80-year-old woman has her tombstone engraved - boldly claiming to be his wife. Flash back to 1919, when the dashing Prince Edward arrives in Canada as an emissary of the King. Bored by the endless pomp and ceremony, he slips away from his official duties and finds himself in the company of a captivating young woman - sparking a romance that will echo through the decades.

Queen Milli of Galt, by Gary Kirkham will be a staged reading at the Dunedin Village Hall.
